Born and raised in Edmonton, Dr. Sam Dhaliwal began his undergraduate program at the University of Alberta. In 2003, Dr. Dhaliwal was accepted into the Doctor of Optometry Program at Illinois College of Optometry at an exceptionally young age of 20. In 2007, Dr. Dhaliwal graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry with Cum Laude Honors and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Visual Science. In recognition of his academic achievements he was selected to be part of the Tomb & Key Honors and Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honors Society.
Having performed thousands of eye examinations, contact lens fittings, and surgical co-management; Dr. Dhaliwal is an accomplished optometrist. He has extensive experience in advanced contact lenses fits including Scleral Lenses, Keratoconus Lenses, Orthokeratology(CRT Lenses), Myopia Control Lenses, Post Corneal Surgery and Multifocal Lenses with excellent visual outcomes. His patients regularly comment on his genuine listening skills and ability to provide answers in a clear and common language; he always puts the patient’s best interests above all else. When not working Dr. Dhaliwal enjoys playing hockey, traveling and spending time with his wife, friends and family.
Dr. Deol was born and raised in Edmonton. She got her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Alberta where she majored in biological sciences and got her minor in psychology. She then went on to get her doctorate at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Deol graduated as part of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. She rotated throughout various clinics in the U.S. including Martha Elliot Health Center, New England Eye Institute, and the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Throughout her clinical rotations she has gained a wide variety of experience including pediatrics, contact lens, as well as diagnosing and managing ocular disease. In her spare time Dr. Deol enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family.
Dr. Nav Pandher completed his Optometry Doctorate at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. As part of his clinical experience, Dr. Pandher had the opportunity to be associated with the top US pediatric hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Pandher took the time to broaden his knowledge beyond primary eye care taking part in internships at various specializing practices, including fitting contact lenses and managing ocular disease.
As a fellow Edmontonian, it is Dr. Pandher’s mission to give thorough and unparalleled eye care to his patients. Strongly believing that an eye exam is more than getting a glasses prescription and a patient is more than a set of eyes, Dr. Pandher puts a heavy emphasis in patient education promoting ocular health. When not working, Dr. Pandher enjoys traveling, playing various sports and spending time with his family and friends.
Dr. Woynorowski attended the University of Alberta, completing her first BSc degree with honors in 2005. In 2006 she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to attend the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, earning a second BSc degree, and her Doctor of Optometry degree with honors in 2010. Her clinical experience includes the Ophthalmology department at Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia, PA., Indian Health Services in Crow Agency, MT, low vision rehabilitation at the William Feinbloom Centre in Philadelphia, PA., specialty contact lens training in San Diego, CA. and private practice in Edmonton, AB. In her free time, Dr. Woynorowski enjoys training with her horse, Casino Royale.
Dr. Sandhu was raised in Toronto and moved to Edmonton after getting married to her Optometry school classmate. She got her Bachelor of Science from University of Toronto and then went to the State University of New York College of Optometry where she graduated from in 2014. During Optometry school Dr. Sandhu did her internships at the VA hospital in New Jersey, SUNY college and the Vision Institute in Toronto focusing on ocular disease, contact lens and primary care. She practiced full scope Optometry in the Greater Toronto Area for over 2 years prior to moving to Edmonton. She is very passionate about Optometry and loves all aspects of patient care. In her spare time she loves traveling.
Dr. Sonia Heer was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biology at the University of Alberta. She then moved to Chicago, Illinois where she was awarded a Board of Trustee Scholarship to attend the Illinois College of Optometry. During her time there, Dr. Heer gained diverse experience in advanced care and ocular disease management. She was given the opportunity to rotate through various clinics including the Central Western Massachusetts VA, Mid Florida Eye Center, and the Alfred and Sara Rosenbloom Center in Chicago, IL. Dr. Heer received her doctorate with the highest academic honor, Summa Cum Laude and was awarded membership to the Tomb and Key Honor Society and Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society. Dr. Heer is passionate about her profession and places a strong emphasis on patient education and comprehensive eye care. In her free time Dr. Heer enjoys travelling with her husband, cooking, and working out.
Dr. Pedersen was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta and raised in Edmonton. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science and then Master of Science in Molecular Biology and Genetics. He attended Optometry school at the University of Waterloo, graduating in 2013. His internships included placements at Omni eye center in Baltimore, MD, and at Polytechnic University in Hong Kong. Dr. Pedersen is committed to providing high quality eye care. He enjoys taking the time to explain to patients any problems they might be having with their eye health or vision. Outside of work Dr. Pedersen is a father to two young children and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Shiney Grewal was born and raised in Edmonton where she completed her Bachelor of Sciences degree at the University of Alberta, with a major in Biology and minor in Psychology. Dr. Grewal then moved to Southern California where she earned her Doctorate of Optometry at Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry. In her fourth year she received extensive training by rotating throughout various established sites including Image Optometry in BC, Veterans Hospital in Fort Myers FL, Braverman Ophthalmology FL, and Vision Center of West Phoenix. Throughout her clinical rotations she gained a wide variety of experience including primary care, pediatrics, contact lenses, as well as diagnosing and managing ocular disease.
She participated in VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) in 2015 where she travelled to San Carlos Mexico to provide free eye exams to the less fortunate population there. Dr. Grewal strives to provide optimal care for her patients by getting to know their specific visual needs and concerns, along with educating them about the importance of ocular health. When not working, Dr. Grewal enjoys travelling, and spending time with her family and friends.
Salma Kiani, O.D. F.A.A.O, is a native of Edmonton, Alberta She completed her Doctorate of Optometry at the University of the Incarnate Word, Rosenberg School of Optometry in Texas. She was honored to be a part of the inaugural class of 2013, graduating on the Dean’s Honor Roll. She also completed an Ocular Disease and Co-Management Residency at Omni Eye Specialists affiliated with Salus University.
She was faculty at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science in Baltimore, Maryland. She taught optometry interns and ophthalmology residents as well as caring for various types of patients.
She was recognized as a ‘Top Doctor’ in the November 2018 issue of Baltimore Magazine. Dr. Kiani is currently is the Alberta representative for the Canadian College of Specialties in Optometry Fellowship Working Group Panel. She is also a fellow of
the American Academy of Optometry, member of the Alberta Association of Optometry and a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa and Gold Key Society.
Dr. Kiani offers comprehensive eye examinations, evaluation and treatment of ocular emergencies, specialty contact lens fittings, annual diabetic dilated exams, treatment and management of eye diseases.
Dr.Kiani participated in Dr. Patricia C.Sanchez-Diaz’s research group involving miRNA expression in retinoblastoma stem-like cancer cells.
As an undergraduate student at the University of Alberta, Dr.Kiani was involved in an independent research study in 2008. The central objective of the study was to understand the dialectical interaction between socio-cultural frameworks and psychological lead by Takahiko Masuda, PhD.

Dr. Laura Chan was born and raised in Edmonton. She completed a BSc in Biological Sciences and a BScN in Nursing at the University of Alberta. She completed her Doctor of Optometry degree with Honors followed by her Masters of Science at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, USA. She was an active member of the Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity and led optometric trips to the Dominican Republic in 2014 and 2015. Dr. Chan graduated as a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society.
Allyse Curry graduated with Honors from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2012. Prior to that, she completed three years towards an undergraduate Honours science degree from St. Francis Xavier in Nova Scotia. She received in-course scholarships for her academic standing in the top 10% amongst all undergraduate students during each academic year. Additionally, Dr. Curry completed her Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Calgary in 2017. She was recognized as a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma international business honour society. Originally from Calgary, Dr. Curry had the opportunity to work at various optometry clinics throughout Alberta where she provided comprehensive eye care services to patients of all ages. She enjoys educating patients about the best strategies to optimize their visual health and is committed to addressing their unique visual needs. In her spare time she enjoys exploring new restaurants, traveling, and baking.
Dr. Sarah Virji was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Alberta, majoring in biological sciences and minoring in criminology. She then went to Birmingham, UK where she completed her BSc in Optometry at Aston University. After completing her degree, Dr. Virji worked in London, UK for 2.5 years. While in London, Dr. Virji would volunteer on her days off working with charity organizations such as Vision Care for the Homeless. She then went on to complete her doctorate at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Virji graduated with honors from Aston University and New England College of Optometry. She completed clinical rotations at Lynn Community Health Center, a private contact lens specialist clinic and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. In her free time, she figure skates, plays hockey and volleyball and performs in dance productions. Dr. Virji is a semi-professional dancer. She not only dances worldwide, but she teaches locally in Edmonton. She hopes to offer her skills to an organization within our city soon.
Dr. Scheuerman was born and raised in Alberta and currently calls Lloydminster home. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta in 2010. From there he went on to the University of Waterloo and received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 2014. During his studies he had the opportunity to work with a retinal specialist and received extensive training in management of retinal disease. He has a special interest in vision therapy and rehabilitation and pediatrics. In his spare time he enjoys golfing, running and spending time with his family.
Dr. Barua received her Bachelor of Health Sciences with honours from the University of Calgary. She then moved to Memphis, TN to attend the Southern College of Optometry to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree. While attending optometry school, Dr. Barua was the Vice President of the Student Chapter of American Academy of Optometry. She also volunteered with Remote Area Medical to provide optometric care to individuals that were underserved and uninsured. Dr. Barua completed her clinical rotations at the Woolfson Eye Institute in Atlanta, The Eye Center in Memphis, and private practices in Edmonton. Currently, Dr. Barua is a member of the Alberta Association of Optometrists’ Government Relations Committee. Dr. Barua is passionate about continually providing exceptional patient care and education. In her free time, Dr. Barua enjoys baking, swimming, and spending time with her friends and family.
Dr. Mohamed El-Mustapha was born and raised In Edmonton, Alberta. Ever since he was young he had a passion for the eyes and vision. After Attending Concordia University for his Bachelor of Science, he completed his doctor degree at IAUPR school of optometry and graduated with honors. Today he is devoted to offer exceptional patient care and satisfaction, he believes that patient education is crucial for good ocular health and vision. He has a special interest in ocular disease, neuro-optometry, paediatrics and geriatrics. Dr. Mustapha is an active member of the Alberta Association of Optometrists and the Canadian Optometric Association. Dr. Mustapha is able to administer examinations in English, Arabic, and Spanish. During his time off, he enjoys family activities with his wife and three kids.
Dr. Ravinder Randhawa was raised in Toronto, Ontario and moved to Edmonton, Alberta in 2019. She completed her bachelor of science degree with a major in biology and minor in psychology at York University in Toronto. Dr. Randhawa graduated from the Illinois college of Optometry in 2019 where she completed an internship specializing in Pediatric eye exams. Dr. Randhawa also completed externships at private practice clinics in Oklahoma and Hamilton, where she focused on specialty contact lens fitting, corneal diseases, cataract pre-operative management, cataract post-operative management and glaucoma. Dr. Randhawa has extensive clinical experience in the management of ocular disease, which she gained during her time at the Tallahassee VA Hospital and the Illinois Eye Institute.
Dr. Randhawa is fluent in English, Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu. Dr. Randhawa has also participated in a SVOSH mission trip to Casimiro Castillo, Mexico with a team of volunteer medical staff where they performed eye examinations on thousands of underprivileged residents. Dr. Randhawa is also a co-host on the popular optometry podcast Four Eyes which is available on Spotify and Apple. In her spare time Dr. Randhawa enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, spending time with her family and friends.
